Jake Fuller Purnel Guitar Having played the guitar from a young age and then attending art school and earning a BSc at London Guildhall University Jake discovered guitar making at a musical instrument making course, "On walking into the guitar making workshop for the first time I instantly knew guitar making was what I wanted to do. The combination of both my passions". Jake has included this description of his work and his guitars in order to explain the new methods he used to create this guitar. "Basically my aim as a maker is to produce classical guitars which have the projection needed for the concert musician whilst retaining a rich tonal character which is often sacrificed when trying to achieve volume. The construction of the instrument is designed so that as much of the strings energy is absorbed by the lower bout of the soundboard where most of the important sound is produced. The neck and upper bout of the soundboard are made stiffer by housing a carbon fibre rod in the neck, extending the upper heal and using an X brace, thus minimizing absorption in these areas. The back of the guitar is laminated with carbon fibre material, eliminating the need for back struts, and creating uniform stiffness without adding extra mass. Here I am aiming to improve the projection and balance of the guitar’s tone by making the back work efficiently in reflecting the vibrations of the soundboard. By introducing my own construction methods I am hoping to create instruments with unique character while retaining the qualities needed by the player." The guitar shown has the serial number 69 and was crafted in 2008. Price: £2,500.00 |
